U15 Boys -- Game 1 - Ipswich 8 Cape Ann 6

GAME SUMMARY by Porter Egan (Official U15 Team Scribe)

It was a sparkling brisk day in Gloucester as the Ipswich U15 Boys took on Cape Ann. From the bleacher top of (New Balance-Gortons) Newell Field at Gloucester High, Eastern Point lay off to the south and the slowly rising Annisquam ebbing by was yet quiet of its summer traffic. On this glorious, albeit chilly opening day, the boys from Ipswich out-netted the Fishermen 8-6. 

After a quick start with goals from McAdams, Kubaska (his first of four) and McCormick, Ipswich raced out to a 3-1 first quarter lead. However, after seemingly letting off the throttle, reeling and confused by handy Fishermen stick-work, the Boston-whaler-like Ipswich team became a lumbering trawler adrift. The Cape Ann team tied the game by half at 4-4.

The second half was a more conservative struggle as Ipswich figured out the wily ways of the Fishermen, shutting them down with solid Defense from Manolian, Bartholomew, Fionda and Davidson along with several handy saves and clears by goalie Jonah Oroth. Offensively, Ipswich outscored Cape Ann 4-2 in the second half with excellent passing and catching. Two of the goals in particular, by O'Brien and Hoff came off smart and crisp assists by Delvecchio and O'Brien respectively.

Overall, the U15 boys looked competent today and team play was outstanding, making for an excellent game for spectators. Up next is Beverly on Wednesday at Mile Lane

U15 Girls:

Ipswich u15 Girls Lacrosse (Orange and Black)  played two games on Sunday at Mile Lane versus Winchester and Tribal. For the first games of the season, Ipswich played a high skill effort from the start. 

Ali Moulton played in the goal for both games and displayed great maturity as she led her defense to near shut-outs in each half. Goal scoring came from a wide variety of players starting with Annie GIllis, Margaux Cayer, Cayla Greenleaf and Tatum Galuski.  Addi Wittkamper ,  a recent convert from defense to offense struck gold with multiple points, while Hailey O'Connor connected with Lilly Sheridan, Kylie O'Keefe and Bryn Weaver for several fast breaks and quick stick tallies. 

Ipswich's defense stood tall led by Amelia Krause, Ava Doran Ava Vitale, Sam Orroth and Elise Morrow. Louisa Roesler and Tamenach Meneghin gathered a number of ground balls to maintain possession in critical situations while Riley Daly used her excessive speed to dust the opponents on fast breaks throughout the afternoon

U11 Boys Black -- Ipswich 11 Cape Ann 3

U11 Black kicked off 2016 with excellent passing, a balanced scoring attack, stout D and great goaltending.

U11 Boys Orange

The Ipswich U11 Boys Lacrosse Orange team started the season on a strong note with a hard fought victory over a tough Tribal team. The Orange was led by solid performances from U11 Rookies Shawn Bilo, Ryan Meany, Jake Petradelis and Sam Magers. They all showed hustle and determination in their first game at the U11 level. The Orange gained valuable possessions from the tough face off duo of Quinn Garry and Chris Burns. Both players dominated the face offs and played strong all around games. Middies Cole Thomas and Theo Van Alen were keys in the Ipswich transition game while Nate Kristian, Jimmy Bornstein and Callum MacLennan worked hard in the offensive zone from their attack positions. The Orange was backstopped by Goalies Finn O'Connell and Nolan Hickey making some tough stops and clearing the ball effectively. O'Connell and Hickey also played great games as field players as well.

Ipswich @ Peabody 4/10/16

After weeks of rainy weather and wet fields, the Ipswich U-9 Girls Lacrosse team arrived at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School's turf ready to play with intensity at their season opener, a first-ever lacrosse game for many of the athletes. 

While the Peabody girls worked hard throughout the game to find positioning and fight for ground balls, they couldn't defy the Ipswich Tigers' great passing and ground ball recovery. Allie Wile was a star scorer for the Tigers, along with offensive players, Lucy Donahue, Evie Bernard, Lily York, Abby Allen and Lily Cummins who kept the ball moving around the crease. 

In the midfield Lyla Greenleaf held off the Peabody girls with deft defense and then rocketed through with agile offense. Isabelle Garry was a speed demon, bringing up the ball from her determined defense, including Hazel Donovan, Reid Johnson and Camilla Capobianco. The lady Tigers were boosted throughout by the thoughtful play of Lia Dillon, Hadley Blaisdell, Marlee Lestage, and Isabelle Tereso who shifted from defense to offense over the course of the game to support their teammates wherever they were needed. 

Goalies Reid Johnson and Abby Allen had a shutout game, with one save each when they weren't rocking the field. It was a team effort and a winning day with a final score of 8-0.
