Ipswich U9 Girls 5.7.17

Learning looks like twelve new players and three seasoned second graders hustling against a more experienced Lynnfield team for two long halves. After a delayed start, rookie Cabot Johnson played for Lynnfield so that they could take the field. First half, goalie Grace Wen made three saves, allowing only two goals, while first grader Phoebe Allen kept Ipswich in the game with two goals off free positions assisted by Reid Johnson. Newcomers Vivian Bodycombe, Alli Colannino, Zoe Pincus, Gracyn Cummins, Eleanor Corcoran and Isabel Welenc hustled on defense, their youthfulness highlighted by Lynnfield’s long-legged players who broke through to shoot repeatedly. In the second half, goalie Ella McCarthy held her ground against Lynnfield’s shots right at the crease allowing five goals. Throughout the game Lia Dillon, Natalie Elder, Reid Johnson and Isabella Racho ran hard and fast in the midfield, but to no avail. While it was technically a loss, we are impressed by the perseverance and hustle from this young team and excited for next week’s game!
