What a tremendous first game the U9 Ipswich Girls lacrosse team had on Peabody’s turf this Sunday! With Ella McCarthy beginning the game as center and Phoebe Allen anchoring in goal (three saves and only one goal allowed) the team played aggressively and with confidence. First-year player Elliott Sinausky played strong defense marking the opponent tightly, while returners Cabot Johnson, Eleanor Corcoran, and Zoe Pincus each scored a goal from the midfield, plus newcomer Maddie Machaiek scored her career first! Gracyn Cummins and Vivian Bodycombe were eager players on both defense and offense at the same time Natalie Elder and Isabella Racho used their speed and agility to keep the ball moving up and down the field. Rookies Hazel Cormier, Paige Donahue, and Ella Schofield literally got better and better every minute that they played. On defense, Isabelle Welenc was a clutch player following directions beautifully, and Alli Colannino’s fierce play resulted in the team high of eight recovered ground balls! In the second half at center Phoebe Allen recovered every draw she took, facilitated passes and scored two goals. In goal second half Ella McCarthy made four saves allowing only three goals. We don’t keep score, but if we did, we’d say it was a pretty great first game for the Ipswich Tigers!
